User friendly designs are important.
Everyone interacts with interfaces all the time. This is true of the virtual world as much as the physical one. Some interfaces are obvious, such as a form on a website or the buttons on a microwave oven. Other interfaces are less obvious – a squeezable catsup bottle is an extremely succesful interface because we interact with it intuitively.
Any time something has to be used by someone other than the person who created it, there is a risk that it will be used incorrectly. This applies to electronic interfaces as much as mechanical ones. Most of the time, using an interface incorrectly will simply waste time. Make an error at the wrong time, however, and you can be in serious danger.
User friendly designs prevents both the loss of time and the loss of life and limb. It is important for the designer to know, so that the user does not have to.
